Reagan urges more letup by Japan on US imports

In a second White House session Wednesday, President Reagan challenged Prime Minister Yasuhiro Nakasone to further ease Japanese laws restricting imports of US goods as evidence of improved relations with the United States. Mr. Nakasone reportedly promised a comprehensive review of a complex testing process that discourages imports of US communications technology and other products.

Tokyo reported Wednesday that Japan's trade surplus with the rest of the world dropped by nearly $2 billion last year, to $6.88 billion. The figures showed that Japan's trade surplus with the US, its major market, dropped just over $1 billion, to $12.18 billion.
