Walesa may sue to get job back

January 18, 1983

Lech Walesa, leader of Poland's banned Solidarity trade union, vowed Monday to get back his job at the Lenin Shipyards in Gdansk by legal action if necessary.

Mr. Walesa led foreign journalists on a tour of Gdansk in which he gave an impromptu news conference in front of the old Solidarity headquarters. He made no attempt to enter the shipyards. He said he was writing to Prime Minister Wojciech Jaruzelski giving a full account of his activities since his release on Nov. 13 after 11 months of internment.
