Salvadorean officer ending his rebellion

January 13, 1983

Lt. Col. Sigifredo Ochoa Perez, the renegade Army commander, agreed Wednesday to end his rebellion and give up his command of Cabanas Province, Salvadoran President Alvaro Magana announced.

The Defense Ministry agreed that Colonel Ochoa would not have to go to Uruguay as military attache, the assignment that prompted his revolt, Mr. Magana said. Colonel Ochoa was not put under arrest, but had agreed to be relieved of his command. His next post had not yet been decided by this writing.
