Argentina to press claim to Falklands once again

January 4, 1983

Argentina, marking 150 years of British rule in the Falkland Islands, vowed Monday to press its claims to the South Atlantic islands. Veterans organizations and citizen groups scheduled parades and wreath-laying ceremonies to honor Falklands war casualties on the anniversary of the islands' seizure by the British in 1833.

Meanwhile, Queen Elizabeth and Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher sent congratulations to the people of the Falklands to mark the anniversary.
