Violence raises tension in Lebanon's Bekaa Valley

December 30, 1982

Israeli soldiers killed two guerrillas trying to penetrate Israeli lines from Syrian-controlled territory in Lebanon's Bekaa Valley, the Israeli Army said Wednesday.

The incident reportedly occurred Monday night near the village of Kamed el Laouz when Israeli forces opened fire after detecting suspicious movement.

Meanwhile, the Lebanese National Resistance Front, an organization which claims responsibility for a string of attacks against Israeli troops in Lebanon threatened Wednesday to step up the operations. Over the past three days there have been daily armed attacks on Israeli soldiers and installations in the southern Lebanese town of Sidon.
