Chrysler workers return to their jobs in Canada

December 14, 1982

About 9,600 Chrysler workers in Canada returned to work Monday after overwhelmingly ratifying a new wage contract ending a five-week strike.

The workers won an immediate 12 percent raise, and union leader Robert White said the new 13-month contract was a major achievement in the fight for parity with car workers at Ford and General Motors. About 4,500 US Chrysler workers had to be laid off during the strike because of a shortage of parts from the Canadian operation.
