December 8, 1982

Leftist guerrillas stormed a stadium, kidnapped two soccer teams and about 160 spectators, and forced them to march at night in a rainstorm to a rebel camp , witnesses said.

About 150 guerrillas killed several spectators who tried to escape the assault on the stadium in San Sebastian, 27 miles east of San Salvador. Police said Tuesday that 17 of those kidnapped had escaped from their assailants' mountain hideout and made it home.
