A front-page story on a major oil find off the coast of California on Nov. 19 quoted a spokesman for the American Petroleum Institute as saying that US oil consumption runs about 7 million barrels a day. In fact, according to the petroleum institute's Monthly Statistical Report, total domestic products supplied - a consumption indicator - averaged 15.2 million barrels a day in October. The Monitor regrets this error.
