Administration outspoken against Israeli aid increase

The administration is taking a strong stand against an increase in US aid to Israel, saying it would have a ''disastrous'' effect on US foreign policy.

In an unusually blunt statement, the State Department said the extra aid to Israel, which a Senate subcommittee added to the $11.5 billion 1983 foreign aid bill, would further concentrate the US aid program on two countries (Egypt and Israel) at a cost to other countries' programs, and would send the wrong signal about US Mideast policy at the wrong time to both Arabs and Israelis.
