Beyond the mirror's image

December 1, 1982

If you must stand alone watching the dark, Come into its embrace And listen to the voices on the wind: You are not alone trying to grasp A straw of love or sleep Or some edge within your mirror's range.

You hold the world! And wrest From nature all her gifts: Seasons fall into place, You grow into each harvest, The force of rivers yield to any touch; Wings unfold, leap into sight Against a crystal sky, and morning Ricochets from spinning night.

We are not born for death, For in each mould of green - a breath! Familiar in the talk of dreams, And suddenly you're free. Beyond the mirror's range You write your own discovery.
