A front-page story on rebuilding Lebanon that appeared in Nov. 18 editions stated that seven years of civil war resulted in 100,000 deaths, and that three months of fighting since the Israeli invasion caused 50,000 deaths. In fact, casualties (killed, wounded, and missing) during the seven civil war years totaled some 150,000, including about 50,000 deaths. And casualties during the three months following the Israeli invasion totaled some 50,000, including about 17,800 deaths - as an accompanying story on page 13 made clear. The Monitor regrets this editing error.
