KKK rally triggers clash of protesters and police

November 29, 1982

Anti-Ku Klux Klan demonstrators hurled bricks, rocks, and bottles at police and overturned cars Saturday in a rash of violence triggered by the first Klan rally in the nation's capital in 57 years.

At least 38 people were arrested during the two hours of violence that followed the peaceful KKK rally across the street from the White House. The 300 police officers were commended for preventing further destruction.
