Lebanon settles a protest and marks an anniversary

The Lebanese flag flew again over the town hall in Baalbek after negotiations brought a peaceful end to antigovernment demonstrations by hundreds of armed youths Sunday.

Meanwhile, Lebanon observed its 39th anniversary of independence from France Monday with parades and ceremony. It was the first time since before the 1975-76 Lebanese civil war that Beirut was able to hold full-scale independence day celebrations
