US bishops urged to tie abortion to nuclear stance

November 16, 1982

The head of the nation's Roman Catholic bishops, at their annual conference Monday, urged his colleagues to make a strong connection between their antinuclear-war stance and their opposition to abortion.

''Concern for human life is the nexus between our positions on these two issues,'' said Archbishop John R. Roach, president of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops. One-third of the bishops' time at the meeting is to be devoted to debate on the nuclear-war issue.
