Vietnam veterans honored in Washington

November 15, 1982

More than 8,000 Vietnam veterans marched in a ''welcome home'' parade here in what march organizers called a long awaited salute to their service in a long, unpopular war.

The veterans were cheered by crowds of about 150,000 watching the parade. The two-hour procession ended at Constitution Gardens where a special memorial was dedicated. The memorial is inscribed with the names of 57,939 men and women who died in the war or are missing in action.
