Bail is set at $5 million in De Lorean drug case

October 22, 1982

US District Court magistrate Volney Brown set bail at $5 million for John Z. De Lorean, the former luxury sports car maker arrested on suspicion of involvement in a drug conspiracy. Defense lawyers said it may take several days to raise the bail.

Meanwhile, angry members of Britain's Parliament demanded to know why two successive British governments supplied $136 million of British taxpayers' money to finance DeLorean's dream of becoming America's first new car tycoon in 50 years.
