Election will decide who picks Khomeini successor

Iran announced that elections would be held in December to set up an assembly empowered to find a successor to the 83-year-old revolutionary leader, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini.

Interior Minister Hojatolislam Ali Akbar Nateq-Nuri told Tehran radio the decision to go ahead with a nationwide poll to choose an assembly of experts was made with the Ayatollah's approval.
