Iran may pay the US dues withheld from UN agency

October 19, 1982

Iran offered to make up for withdrawal of US contribution to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), the Iranian national news agency said.

Iran said it would take responsibility for the US dues to prevent the United States from imposing its will. US Secretary of State George Shultz said Saturday that Washington would stop paying its contributions to the IAEA and withhold about $8.5 million owed to the UN agency because it had refused to accept Israel's credentials.
