US won't talk to PLO official in Arab League

October 18, 1982

The Reagan administration reaffirmed US policy against direct contact with the Palestine Liberation Organization, despite Arab League plans to include the PLO in a delegation scheduled to meet President Reagan Oct. 22.

''There are no plans for American officials to meet with any PLO officials. Period,'' a White House spokesman said. Earlier, in Morocco, an Arab League committee said all its members will participate in the White House meeting with Reagan. The delegation headed by Morocco's King Hassan is to discuss Reagan's Middle East peace initiative.
