'Operation Swordfish' stings 67 drug violators

October 18, 1982

A Drug Enforcement Administration ''sting,'' dubbed Operation Swordfish, netted enough evidence for a federal grand jury here to indict 67 people on different drug-related charges, officials said.

At least 36 of the 67 have been arrested after a sweep of the Miami area by agents of the DEA, the FBI, and local police. Three more people were to be arraigned in Denver and Los Angeles. The remainder, mostly Colombian citizens, were thought to be out of the country. During the 18-month-long investigation, agents set up an investment firm to launder drug smugglers' money.
