EPA chief says 'gutting' charges are unfounded

A coalition of conservation groups is accusing President Reagan of gutting pollution enforcement and giving away resources.

The 10 organizations leveled the charges in a report detailing examples in local areas where they argue Reagan policies are harming the environment. The administration reaction came swiftly: Environmental Protection Agency chief Anne Gorsuch said ''It's amazing how many of these completely subjective and conclusionary statements can be made with absolutely no foundation in fact.''
