Another Solidarity leader arrested by Polish regime

Poland's martial law rulers arrested one of Solidarity's most important leaders Wednesday, days before the union was expected to be dissolved formally.

The arrest of Wladyslaw Frasyniuk follows the detention last month of another senior activist, Zbigniew Romaszewski. Mr. Frasyniuk, Solidarity chairman in the heavy industry area of Wroclaw, was one of four prominent union leaders who established a National Coordinating Committee in April to organize resistance to martial law and nationwide support for Solidarity.

Separately, the wife of jailed union leader Lech Walesa said Wednesday her husband would have nothing to do with the new unions Poland's military rulers propose to replace the independent Solidarity movement.
