A senior Soviet official has indicated that Moscow is upgrading Syria's military arsenal in the wake of the recent Mideast fighting, Monitor correspondent Ned Temko reports.

In a recent interview on Hungarian television, Vadim Zagladin, a member of the Communist Party Central Committee, said: ''We made up immediately for all the losses which they (the Syrians) suffered in the first few days of the fighting'' - a reference to a Soviet airlift begun shortly after Israel's invasion of Lebanon. Mr. Zagladin gave no further details.
