Polish parliament set to debate union bill

October 4, 1982

The Polish Sejm (parliament) will meet this Friday and Saturday to debate a bill on labor unions whose adoption will mean dissolution of the independent union Solidarity, the official news agency PAP said.

Official sources have said the labor union bill, which is virtually certain to be passed by the Communist-dominated Sejm, will retain the idea of independent, self-governed unions but aim at preventing them developing into political forces.
