Marcos: US should push role in Southeast Asia

Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos called on the United States to match the growth of Japan's economic presence in Southeast Asia, saying Japan is dislodging the US from its role as the region's traditional economic partner.

Addressing American business leaders here, he said Japan has outpaced the US in volume and growth of trade, in investment, and in aid to the five-member Association of South East Asian Nations.
