New clashes break out in western Polish city

Fresh street clashes erupted in Czestochowa and Lubin Wednesday - the second day of disturbances apparently triggered by the deaths of three demonstrators, the official news agency PAP reported.

The report of new violence came as the government moved to crack down on underground resistance to martial law, including show trials for dissident leaders on charges of ''crimes against the state.'' Such trials would be the most important in Poland since the Stalinist era of the 1950s, but reports did not name any dissidents who face indictments.
