Israel against revising autonomy, Sharon says

September 1, 1982

Defense Minister Ariel Sharon returned from the United States Tuesday saying he had made it absolutely clear to Washington that Israel would not accept any alternatives to the Camp David autonomy plan for the Israeli-occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip.

He was responding to reports the US is considering new plans that diverge from the autonomy plan for the 1.3 million Palestinians in the occupied territories. Mr. Sharon met with Defense Secretary Caspar Weinberger and Secretary of State George Shultz. He also said US public opinion is turning in favor of Israel.
