France captures two international terrorists

August 30, 1982

Two international terrorists were captured in an important move in the fight against rising political violence in Paris, the Interior Ministry said.

Police sources said those detained, a man and a woman, were arrested by members of the elite National Gendarmerie Intervention Group (GIGN) in a raid on an apartment in the Paris suburb of Vincennes. The Interior Ministry's statement said the arrests were the first fruits of a determined drive against terrorism announced earlier this month by President Franccois Mitterrand.
