August 30, 1982

A man was charged with killing the son of a witness in the investigation involving Labor Secretary Raymond Donovan's alleged ties to organized crime.

Police said Salvatore Odierno of Valley Stream, N.Y., reportedly a longtime member of an organized crime group, surrendered Saturday to Bronx District Attorney Mario Merola.

Also over the weekend, the New York Daily News reported that an FBI tape records an associate of Donovan's soliciting a $1,000 campaign contribution for President Reagan from reputed mobster William Masselli.
