Italian union nominates Walesa for Nobel prize

An Italian labor union said it nominated Solidarity leader Lech Walesa for the Nobel Peace Prize.

''It seems to us particularly important that in this year, so painfully marked by wars and shedding of blood in many regions of the world, the Nobel Peace Prize be awarded to one who has worked beyond personal sacrifice to lessen tensions of enormous magnitude by civil progress and not by violence and armed conflict,'' the nomination letter said.
