Haydn's opus 50 turns up with Melbourne family

August 20, 1982

Four original scores from Franz Joseph Haydn's String Quartet opus 50 have been confirmed as genuine, reports the daily newspaper The Australian.

The 120-page leather-bound manuscript has been in the possession of a Melbourne, Australia family for about 200 years. Authentication came from musicologist George Feder of the Haydn Institute in Cologne, West Germany.
