EC reopens trade talks with Washington

August 16, 1982

The European Community, eager to avoid a trans-Atlantic trade war, opens a new round of talks in Washington this week to repair its tattered relations with the United States.

After a series of negotiations on steel and trade matters earlier this month, the Community is now sending the President of its Council of Ministers -- Danish Foreign Minister Kjeld Olesen -- to discuss the US technology embargo on the Soviet natural gas pipeline.
