Peacemaking encouraged

Umpire Harry Wendelstedt may be on to something with his decision to make warring ballplayers establish a truce or be ejected. After Montreal's Gary Carter and Chicago's Bill Buckner scuffled in a recent game, Wendelstedt admonished them to shake hands or face quick exits. Rather begrudgingly, they agreed to the first option. Imagine how many fights could be eliminated if pro hockey adopted this procedure.
