6 killed in Paris in attack on a Jewish restaurant

August 10, 1982

Six people were killed and 12 wounded in a grenade and gun attack on a well-known Jewish restaurant in central Paris Monday, police said.

Police said two young men walked into Jo Goldenberg's restaurant, threw a grenade toward the cashier, and opened fire with machine pistols on the lunch hour crowds. A shadowy ultra-leftist group called Action Directe claimed responsibility. Experts believe Action Directe is a small group with considerable links to Mideast guerrillas. They also believe Action Directe played a part in the killing of an Israeli diplomat and the murder of an American diplomat earlier this year.
