Hinckley to appear at court hearing after all

August 9, 1982

Federal Judge Barrington Parker decided Friday to go ahead with a sanity hearing for John W. Hinckley Jr., who was acquitted by reason of insanity in June in the shooting of President Reagan. Despite an earlier waiver by Hinckley, Parker ordered Hinckley to appear at a brief hearing required by law to determine if he is well enough to be released.
