Iran threatens Baghdad with terror bombings

Shortly after Iraq demanded war reparations from Iran, the two countries exchanged heavy artillery barrages along their disputed border, and Tehran warned it was escalating the conflict with a terror-bomb campaign in Baghdad.

Tehran's official news agency claimed Wednesday that ''Muslim revolutionaries'' exploded a bomb in Baghdad Sunday which killed ''tens'' of people. It said bigger blasts would be aimed at the leaders of the world's nonaligned nations meeting in Baghdad in September.

Not everyone in Tehran supports the government's threat. A left-wing Mujahideen guerrilla leader, Massoud Rajavi, called on Iranians inside and outside their country to form a coalition to bring down Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini's government.
