Reagan renews his calls for abortion ban, prayer

August 4, 1982

President Reagan, assailing ''the intrusive hand of government,'' renewed his call for a ban on abortion and a constitutional amendment to permit voluntary prayer in public schools.

Mr. Reagan outlined a wide-ranging social agenda in a speech prepared for delivery to the centennial meeting of the 1.3 million-member Knights of Columbus. In recent months, the President's conservative supporters have criticized him for giving inadequate priority to such social issues as abortion and school prayer.
