The editor in chief of Guatemala's biggest daily was freed by leftist guerrillas who had held him for 148 days, a family member said.
Alvaro Contreras, editor of the newspaper Prensa Libre, was reported to have been kidnapped by the Guatemalan Labor Party (PGT) last March 5 after a shootout at his home. He said his release came after his family paid ransom.
