Vatican refuses notices on possible bank action

July 30, 1982

The Vatican refused to accept formal notices of possible legal action issued by Italian magistrates against the head of the Vatican bank, Archibshop Paul Marcinkus, and two other Vatican bank officials, judicial sources said.

The notices were issued by Milan magistrates investigating the financial crisis at Banco Ambrosiano and its links with the the Vatican bank. The sources said the magistrates' letters were returned unopened by the Vatican and sent to the Foreign Ministry.
