American blacks can craft a new order, parley says

Black Americans have the power and the ability to forge a new and fair economic order in an unequal world, the nation's leading black activists told the National Summit Conference on Black Economic Development and Survival.

Among the speakers were the Rev. Joseph Lowery, head of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, who urged blacks to ''rise up'' and work for full employment, tax reform, and a redistribution of the nation's wealth; Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young; and former Massachusetts senator Edward W. Brooke.
