Senate panel will probe FBI role in Donovan case

The Senate Labor Committee voted to conduct a special inquiry into the FBI's investigation of organized-crime allegations involving Labor Secretary Raymond Donovan.

Chairman Orrin Hatch (R) of Utah - using an early-morning committee meeting to bypass fellow conservative Republicans who blocked his attempt on Wednesday to authorize the investigation - pushed through a bipartisan call for the probe before the Senate opened its Thursday session.
