PLO says it will help find kidnapped US educator

July 21, 1982

The Palestine Liberation Organization condemned the kidnapping of David Dodge , acting president of the American University of Beirut, and promised to help find him.

University officials said there were no clues to Mr. Dodge's whereabouts after gunmen hit him on the head and pushed him into a car as he walked from his office to his residence. The PLO and its leftist Lebanese allies held an emergency meeting to discuss the abduction, which was the first attack on an American in Beirut since Israel invaded Lebanon June 6.
