July 16, 1982

Bolivia's military high command announced that general elections will be held on April 24, 1983, to restore the democratic process interrupted by a coup in July 1980.

Bolivian President Celso Torrelio also said power would be handed over to the presidential election winner in August of 1983. The announcement came after all-night meetings among Bolivia's military leaders.
