Leading Palestinian to visit Washington for talks

July 14, 1982

A member of the 15-man central committee of Al-Fatah, the central element in the PLO, is scheduled to visit Washington today (July 14), according to well-informed Palestinian sources in Beirut. His visit will coincide with those of the Syrian and Saudi foreign ministers, special correspondent Helena Cobban reports.

Khaled al-Hassan, one of the co-founders with Yasser Arafat of Fatah, was reported to be coming for undisclosed talks here. The Syrian and Saudi foreign ministers are continuing a mission taking Arab foreign ministers to the capitals of all five permanent members of the UN Security Council in an effort to resolve the deadlocked talks on the future of the PLO in Lebanon.
