Four sentenced to death for failed Seychelles coup

July 7, 1982

Four white mercenaries were sentenced to death Tuesday for their part in a bungled coup against the Seychelles government last year.

The four - two Zimbabweans, a South African, and a Briton - pleaded guilty to treason when the trial began last month. A fifth man, South African intelligence agent Martin Dolincheck, was found guilty of treason and given a 20-year jail term by the Seychelles high court.
