Court denies von Bulow on excessive-bail plea

July 7, 1982

The Rhode Island Supreme Court rejected Claus von Bulow's claim that an excessive bail requirement was imposed during appeals after he was convicted of trying to kill his wife.

In a six-page ruling, the court ordered the bail question returned to Superior Court for a new hearing on whether Mr. von Bulow has $900,000 worth of assets to meet the bail set by Judge Thomas H. Needham.
