Honduran troops aiding El Salvador, rebels say

June 29, 1982

Leftist rebels said two Honduran Army battalions are joining government troops in their big offensive against the guerrillas in northeastern El Salvador , bringing another country into the war.

They claimed the combined forces add up to 8,000 troops. Earlier the rebels said US-supplied ''Huey'' Honduran Army helicopters were ferrying troops to Guacamaya, several miles inside El Salvador. No military spokesmen were available for comment.
