Solidarity reversing stand on nonviolent resistance?

Members of the Solidarity trade union called for selective use of force in confrontations with martial-law authorities, the Los Angeles Times reports.

The appeal is apparently a departure from Solidarity's former policy of nonviolent resistance to the imposition of martial law Dec. 13. Disclosure of the apparent change in tactics appeared in government-controlled newspapers and an underground weekly union publication.

Also over the weekend a Polish military court jailed eight members of an underground Solidarity group in a western town, the official PAP news agency reported. The court found they had distributed leaflets slandering authorities and the Communist Party.
