Prince Sihanouk to return home to lead resistance

June 23, 1982

After three anti-Vietnamese resistance groups signed a formal coalition agreement, Prince Norodom Sihanouk, the former Kampuchean (Cambodian) head of state, announced he would return to his homeland to serve as coalition president.

He will lead the group in confronting the Vietnamese-installed government in Phnom Penh. Prince Sihanouk left Kampuchea in January of 1979, shortly before Vietnamese troops arrived to install the Heng Samrin government.
