Military space programs to have a single home

June 22, 1982

The Air Force will create a space command center in Colorado Springs, Colo., to put military space programs under one roof for the first time, Pentagon sources said Monday.

The command will not give the Air Force new duties in carrying out military space programs, the sources said, but will serve as a new organizational structure combining components of other commands that deal with space activities. The command will not conflict with NASA, the sources said, which is largely responsible for nonmilitary space programs.
